Q: What is WADU?

A: WADU is a Pan African organization consistent with and dedicated to the historic work of Pan Africanism. Its focus is on unifying and empowering the African Diaspora politically, culturally and economically, as an integral part of Africa.

Q: When was WADU initiated?

A: WADU was envisioned by the Elombe Brath in 2003 as a response to the African Union call for the African Diaspora to help rebuild Africa. Baba James Small, Dr. Leonard Jeffries, Del Jones, etc. launched WADU after the October 2004 Conference of African Intellectuals in Dakar, Senegal.

Q: What is the African Diaspora?

A: The African Diaspora is mainly those persons of African descent dispersed from Africa into Europe, Asia and the Americas during Arab and European commercial slave raids. It also consisted of those persons who voluntary migrated from Africa in the 20th and 21st century. The African population in the Western Hemisphere is about 150 million persons in South America (mainly Brazil & Columbia), in North America (USA), the Caribbean and in Europe.

Q: What is WADU Operational Structure?

A: WADU has a Diaspora High Council of Elders (led by a Chair), a Diaspora Executive Council (led by a President) and State Councils. Each State council (i.e. Georgia/Jamaica/France) is led by Co-Chairs (Male/Female) and advised by a State Chief Elder.

Q: Why WADU?

A: WADU, with its veteran leaders and Pan African comprehensive plan is considered one of the most authentic and effective Pan African organizations to serve the African Diaspora, our Homeland Africa and the world, in the 21st century. Finally, Africans need and deserve an organization that can be trusted!

Q: What is WADU Relationship with other organizations?

A: WADU operates on several levels with other Pan African and Africa related organizations with an agenda for phased integration of African Diaspora organizations in WADU and the Diaspora participation with the African Union over the next decade. First, WADU has an integrated leadership at all levels with other organizations; second, WADU has agreements with trusted organizations to collaborate and or partner on long term projects; and finally, WADU supports some short term events and programs to initiate the building of lasting relationships. Please do not confuse WADU with organizations with similar sounding names as “WADU.”
